Horse Racing Tips Today at Wincanton, Saturday 9th November 2019
The first race of real note at Wincanton on Saturday is the Richard Barber Memorial Mares’ Hurdle. This 2m5½f handicap is something of a specialists race which could well play into the hands of Organdi. Hee’s already run in two handicaps over hurdles this season including over the same distance at Ludlow where he won last time out. Despite being punished by the handicapper, Organdi is still off a competitive enough mark. Expect her to come on strong in the closing stages.
Reserve Tank is a well fancied favourite in the “Rising Stars” Novices’ Chase. Colin Tizzard’s five-year-old certainly fits the bill of a rising star and should be there or thereabouts in this 2m4f contest. The odds are more than a little problematic though. That’s especially true given that Ballymoy is available at 5/1 with BetVictor. He was a well regarded hurdler who reached a peak official rating of 151 but made some sloppy jumping mistakes in his first start over fences last month at Warwick. Nigel Twiston-Davies will surely ensure that he doesn’t go off anywhere near as hard this time out. That should help his jumping and give him the chance to score a first chase win.
Nigel Twiston-Davies won the Elite Hurdle last season with Verdana Blue and has a very good chance of more success 12 months on with Fusil Raffles. The four-year-old sits top of the betting with many bookmakers making him an odds-on shot. That may seem a little short for one so inexperienced but Fusil Raffles has already won a Grade 1 for his age group and should be able to take that form into a battle against some older horses including La Patriote who is the main danger.
The Badger Beers Silver Trophy is the big race of the day at Wincanton. This well regarded Listed handicap carries a decent prize fund and has attracted a suitably strong field. Punters have struggled for profit in this competitive race over the years with winners coming from different parts of the market.
It’s the sort of contest where you’d have to be very sweet on the chances of a horse to justify supporting just one against the field. Present Man is perhaps an exception as the bookies’ favourite looks to complete a hat-trick of wins in the Silver Trophy but he will face a huge challenge led by the likes of Give Me A Copper, Lil Rockerfeller and West Approach. The value, however, may lie with Just A Sting who looks very well treated by the handicapper and can use his lenient mark to land an each way pay out at very nice odds of 12/1 with bet365.
