Three-Year-Olds Dominate the Top of the Betting
The weather around the Curragh hasn’t been the best in the week leading up to the Snow Fairy Fillies Stakes. With more rain due on the day of the race, the current official going of good, yielding in places, could be eased out to something even softer the closer we get to the off.
That is something to bear in mind as the speed merchants in the field won’t have things all their own way if they have to cope with extra cut in the ground. The other thing to note is that this is a race for younger horses, even if any filly and mare over three is permitted to enter. No horse over four has won any of the last 10 renewals with eight of those races going the way of a three-year-old.
Can Goddess Continue Her Rehabilitation?
The start of the flat racing season is always an exciting time for trainers of exciting three-year-olds. Aidan O’Brien usually heads into the season with a better selection of Classic hopefuls than many and he’d have counted Goddess among that number this year.
Her incredibly impressive win in a maiden a Leopardstown during her juvenile campaign saw Goddess cut to favouritism for the 1000 Guineas in the ante post betting but she didn’t return to action until June of this year and has so far fallen well short of the expectations about her.
Connections were delighted that the American bred filly finally returned to winning ways at Gowan last time out. She beat some handy horses in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Hurry Harriet Stakes, a Listed race which, crucially in terms of her Saturday assignment, came on ground that was yielding to soft.
Dean Street Doll to Enjoy the Ground
Richard John O’Brien was delighted that Dean Street Doll got off to a winning start to the season. Hopes of much success were raised further still when she finished runner up in the Derrinstown Stud 1,000 Guineas Trial. She was unable to replicate her performance in that Group 3 in any of her subsequent starts but is not one to write off.
The application of a tongue tie for the first time could help, whist connections believe she could be back to something approaching her best physically. If that’s the case, a place is by no means out of the question at 14/1 with Paddy Power.
Goddess started to show the world what she is capable of last time out at Gowan. Aidan O’Brien has reported that she came out of that race well and is looking good to kick on so a bet on this once very highly regarded filly looks a solid option at 3/1 with BetVictor.
