Horse Racing Tips Today – Saturday 22nd June 2019 – Royal Ascot Day 5

2.30 at Ascot – Lope Y Fernandez at at 5/4

The Chesham Stakes is the opener on the final day of the 2019 Royal Ascot festival. This seven furlong Listed race for two year olds was won by subsequent 2000 Guineas winner Churchill in 2016; could this year’s winner challenge for the Classics next season?

The runner we’re backing is Aidan O’Brien’s Lope Y Fernandez, who might well move to a higher level next term. The colt impressed on debut when winning by almost four lengths at the Curragh and we fancy he’ll take this field by storm.

3.40 at Ascot – Defoe to win at 9/2

The Group 2 Harwicke Stakes is always worth a look, and this renewal sees Charlie Appleby’s Masar as a worthy favourite after his Derby win. But we are going to oppose him in this one given the relatively short odds.

Instead we’re opting for the second favourite, Defoe, who hails from the Roger Varian stable. The grey gelding won the Coronation Cup at the Derby meeting ahead of Kew Gardens and we fancy he’ll give Masar a real run for his money in this one.

4.20 at Ascot – The Tin Man to win at 12/1

The Diamond Jubilee Stakes is the big race of the day and this six furlong dash promises to be one hell of a contest. With 10 wins from 19 races to date, including victories in the last four, Charlie Appleby’s Blue Point was always going to be at the top of the betting. But is it really realistic to expect him to back up his victory in the King’s Stand Stakes with another here? A good number of punters seem to think so.

We’re playing it with a little more caution, however. Instead we’re opting for the runner who won this one in 2017 and came fourth last year: The Tin Man. We’re going each way though as the odds allow for it and you never can discount the possibility Blue Point will do the business.

5.00 at Ascot – Foxtrot Lady each way at 12/1

We’re going for another each way pick in the 5.00 at Ascot: Foxtrot Lady. The four year old from Andrew Balding’s yard has finished in the top three in 11 of her 16 runs to date and we fancy she’ll sneak into the places again here.
