Horse Racing Tips Today – Friday 21st June 2019
2:25 at Newbury – Salouen to win at 3/1
The Geoffrey Freer Stakes is a well regarded Group 3 contest for horses with a certain amount of stamina. There aren’t many races of this calibre ran over 1m5½f. The feeling that this is something of a specialists’ race is backed up by the number of winners from the top part of the market. That trend can continue with Salouen at 3/1. He has run valiantly in defeat against some truly top class horses lately and can make the most of this drop down in class.
3:00 at Newbury – Ripp Orf to win at 8/1
Horses aged three and older who have a maximum official rating of 95 are permitted to run in the Unibet Handicap. Savvy punters haven’t had to look too hard for a high quality winner in recent renewals and Ripp Orf stands out this time around at 8/1. He’s dropped a little down the weights after some subpar performances this season but you can’t write this five-year-old off and a return to form would be no surprise at Newbury.
3:15 at Ripon – Richenza each way at 14/1
The Great St Wilfrid is a handicap that many owners have their eyes on for some time. This 6f sprint is seriously over subscribed and its competitive nature has helped to produce four winning favourites in the last 10 years. We’ve seen plenty of double figure winners in that time though and an each way bet could be the way to go this year.
Richenza is worth a shot at 14/1. She loves running on soft ground and the rain in the lead up to the race cannot fall heavily enough for her. That should give Richenza enough of an edge to claim a place.
3:35 at Newbury – Hey Gaman to win at 9/2
The Group 2 Hungerford Stakes is Saturday’s biggest race at Newbury. A strong field rangings from three to seven-year-olds will is set to go to post but it’s younger horses who have had the better of this 7f contest.
Recent winners tend to hve already won a Listed or Group race before. Hey Gaman ticks that box. He failed to win either of the Group 2s he ran in most recently but the tactics looked wrong at Goodwood. Get them right this time around and he can reverse the form on Sir Dancelot to win at 9/2.
