Horse Racing Tips Today – Saturday 3rd August 2019 at Goodwood
1.50 at Goodwood – Paddy Power each way at 25/1
Competition for a place in the Stewards’ Cup is so fierce that Goodwood had to introduce the Stewards’ Sprint Handicap as a consolation race. This is still a valuable handicap in its own right and has thrown up winners from all parts of the market in recent years.
It takes a certain amount of hardiness to win this hectic 6f handicap. Paddy Power has bags of that gained in a host of competitive handicaps. He won’t be put off by the hustle and bustle of the first few furlongs and is quick enough to claim a place when bursting for home so an each way bet is in order at 25/1 with his namesake bolokmaker.
2.25 at Goodwood – Charles Kingsley to win at 8/1
The Qatar Summer Handicap has proven to be a challenge for punters over the years. Double figure winners have landed the last four renewals but, by the same token, it’s not a race that’s usually won by a rank outsider.
Four horses have won at odds of 8/1 or shorter in the last 10 years and that’s the price Coral are quoting on Charles Kingsley for this year’s race. That looks more than fair for a horse who won over this 1m6f trip last time out. That was just one win of many in a busy but fruitful campaign which could easily get even better at Goodwood.
3.00 at Goodwood – Enbihaar to win at 5/2
We have a fascinating battle between two horses ahead of us in the Lillie Langtry Stakes. Enbihaar (5/2 with Ladbrokes) and Dramatic Queen (11/4 with BetVictor) are almost neck and neck in the betting as they go up against each other for the third race in a row.
Dramatic Queen won the first over the same 1m6f trip as the Lillie Langtry before Enbihaar reversed the form over 1m4f last time out at Haydock. That suggests the longer trip will suit Dramatic Queen but Enbihaar is actually the sort of big, galloping filly who should thrive at 1m6f so she gets the nod at slightly longer odds.
3.40 at Goodwood – Cosmic Law each way at 16/1
This is the big handicap race of the entire Glorious Goodwood festival. The Stewards’ Cup always provides an intense ante post market and the action in the betting only intensifies the closer we get to the start of this manic 6f contest. This is a race that demands a fair amount of experience and a calm head on the part of both horse and jockey.
PJ McDonald has amassed a huge amount of experience and plenty of respect during his riding career. He is a Classic winning jockey who will doubtless give Cosmic Law and calm and confident ride in the Stewards’ Cup. McDonald has partnered the three-year-old in three challenging handicaps so far this season, securing positive results along the way. This partnership looks a danger to the favourites so back Cosmic Law each way at 16/1 with bet365.
