King George VI Chase Betting Tips, 3:05pm at Kempton, Wednesday, 26th December 2018

A trademark of the Festive season is the King George Chase on Boxing Day. One of the most prestigious meetings in the racing calendar, there’s going to be plenty of focus on the big race at Kempton this week. This high class contest has been punter-friendly in recent years, but will this be another renewal won by the favourite? With a cool £140,000 up for grabs, who will come out on top?

Race Preview

Last year’s winner Might Bite is the frontrunner here, as Nicky Henderson returned to success at the King George. This race tends to produce repeat winners, but can Henderson’s charge complete back to back wins at this huge race? The bookies have faith, pricing him up at 11/4 with 888sport ahead of Wednesday. Despite that, we’re not entirely convinced, with stamina a big concern for the returning champion.

Might Bite is followed by Waiting Patiently, the Ruth Jefferson-trained seven-year-old. However, this might be a year or two too early for him, which leaves an opening at the front of the field. Could this favourite friendly renewal see an outside candidate race to glory this week?

Our pick for Wednesday’s race is Politologue, who comes in as a 5/1 shot with bet365. The seven-year-old comes here on the back to two victories, getting success at Cheltenham and Ascot. Paul Nicholls has a great record at this meeting, with a record nine wins overall. The last of those successes came back in 2014, so could this be the year when Nicholls lands the King George again?

We think Politologue has a great chance of success here, after landing five wins in seven races. An impressive record to date should see him push on and contend for first place here, and we think that he’s well price at 5/1 going into this one. With Nicholls driving him on, we are expecting big things from him this week.

Each Way Option at Big Odds

If you want something slightly longer, then we think it’s worth taking a look at Double Shuffle. Sat out at big odds of 33/1, the Tom George-trained contender will be hoping to return to form here. While his recent form isn’t the standout in this field, there’s certainly potential there for George to see him compete at Kempton once again.

This race in 2017 saw Double Shuffle make a charge for a victory, recording an impressive second place finish behind Might Bite. Despite that solid display at this course, he can be found out at a massive 33/1 with Ladbrokes. We think that last year’s runner-up is worth backing for another good run, as a return to Kempton should inspire better things from the eight-year-old.

Of course, maybe we’ve got Might Bite all wrong and the favourite will deliver. The bookies think so and whilst 11/4 looks a shade short, it’s impossible to argue with the enhanced 50/1 odds of this Betfair offer!
